Liberty Early Elementary is a safe, respectful early childhood community characterized by collaboration, rigor, and fun. We inspire our students to be confident learners, innovative thinkers, and compassionate citizens. Setting big goals for little learners, we prioritize the fundamentals of reading, writing, and mathematics skills to prepare students for the next steps in their educational journey.
The MSD of Decatur Township is Student Invested, Community Connected. We prioritize Student learning, Safety and Customer Service, fostering a support system for our families.
A Note from the Principal
When getting to know students, I can often break the ice by asking them questions about themselves. I've learned that even reluctant talkers are usually willing to share their "favorites." For example, most kids can readily tell you their favorite color, their favorite number (often their age), their favorite letter (usually their first initial), and their favorite food (generally something you can get from a drive-thru). But, I've learned that it's more interesting to ask children less obvious questions.
What's your favorite smell?
What's your favorite room in your house?
What's your favorite sound?
What's your favorite thing to do outside?
What's your favorite zoo animal?
What's your favorite way to help others?
Who is your favorite author?
When my kids were young, I'll admit we were on the go and didn't always get to eat dinner around the table together every night as a family, but we did try to connect with one another over meals by asking and answering questions. Little ones have such interesting thoughts and ideas and I learned so much about my girls this way. This Spring Break, I'm hoping you'll get to spend some extra time with your child. And, perhaps, you can learn a little more about him/her as you find out the answers to some of these burning questions. And, your child can learn more about you as you answer the questions, too! Have a wonderful Spring Break and we'll see everyone back in school on April 4th.

Special Kindergarten Enrollment Night
Kindergarten Roundup is a special evening set aside for parents to come and enroll kindergarten students on site at each Decatur elementary school. Our Roundup will be April 21st from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. (Onsite registration for other grades will be held in the summer.) Parents can complete the online portion of registration at home prior to our Roundup, or complete it on a laptop available at school that evening. Regardless, families need to bring the following items with them for enrollment on April 21st:
Birth Certificate
Immunization Records
Proof of address, such as a recent bill
Parent/Guardian driver’s license
In Indiana, a child must be 5 years old on or before August 1st to enroll in kindergarten. If your child will not be 5 by August 1st, but you feel he/she is ready for kindergarten, please contact your child's home school to sign up for an Early Entrance assessment. Please do not enroll your child until after the assessment and notification that your child qualifies for enrollment this year.
If you have any questions please call our office staff at 317-243-7559.
Preschool Enrollment Information
For returning preschoolers who qualify for classroom services in their IEPs, parents do need to re-enroll online, but your child will have a spot in a half-day class.
If you have questions, please contact the school office.
Are you assigned to a new school next year?
Vaccination Clinic Coming Soon
If your student is not up to date on school vaccinations required by the state, please consider this convenient option! On Wednesday, April 20th, families will have the opportunity to attend a vaccination clinic at the Decatur Township School for Excellence in the Community Room (door 1) from 4-7pm. It is important to maintain compliance for the safety of your student. If you're not sure which vaccinations are required for your child, please visit this website.
